31: Halloween. Will be working that day, and then partying that night.

By which I mean, sorry for the gap of nearly a year.

I'm not sure if I believe the new Tribe spin, but having browsed a few of the Tribe team blog pages and stuff, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and be all hopeful-like.

So I'm uploading new content. I've been shooting again, and I always forget just how much I love doing it. I mean, damn, if I could get paid to look pretty for the camera...

Anyway. Lets see, updates since graduation:
January: Was unemployed, and in Santa Cruz.
February: Landed a job as a stitcher at AMT in San Jose. Commute sucked, but it paid my rent and bought me food and gave me a little of extra dosh aside from that. Gas prices were teh suck.
March: Started wrapping up at AMT, and started the interview process at Google. It's a long story, maybe one I'll post here later.
March 31: Celebrated birthday. Went to Davis. Finally got the call from the recruiter - I HAD A JOB! Commence REAL celebration!
April: Started at Google. Friend who brought me in left the company due to stupidity with the hiring system. Fell off a scooter at high speed, and ended up with an open workmans comp claim (ouch).
May: 3 month contract extended. I begin looking for somewhere else to live.
June: Moved to San Jose. Rent is literally double what I was paying in Santa Cruz, but the commute is SO much better, the shuttle picks up near my house, I don't have to tackle 17 to get home, and I have a 2-bedroom place all to myself. For the first time, I am not sleeping in the same room with a sewing machine and I can walk around the apartment naked at will. Started working with Fire Conclave Santa Cruz to get a Burning Man ticket (discount).
July: Dumped over 4th of July weekend. Swearing off teh manz.
August: Prepped for Burning Man, working with Fire Conclave in Santa Cruz, ran around faires like a chicken with no head, finally made it out there.
Sept: Recovering from Burning Man and launching into my New, Improved, Still-Crazy Social Life. Lost the battle with July line 2. ;)

Whee.

I AM GRADUATED!

WOOHOO!

No more papers, no more bussing up to campus, no more trying to read 200 pages of anthropological theory in one night...

Now I just need to find a job. ::headdesk::

Anyone know anywhere that's hiring? I'm an accomplished theater tech, a model, and I push paper efficiently. Any leads?

On "Burner Spirit"

Okay, so I obviously made it back from Burning Man. I have a few rants, but I first have to get this bit off my chest...

I worked at Cafe Friday night on the 11-3am shift. After standing in my line for about ten minutes, an older lady, impaired in at *least* one way, and her two drunken friends show up at the front of my line. The proceed to ignore me, arguing among themselves, while Older Lady dumps out the *entire* contents of her oversized purse onto my counter. I'm trying to take their order, she still (after having the entire line's wait to look for it) can't find her money, and snaps at me. Having finally (after several minutes) found her money, she then changes her order on me at least three times, finally settling angrily on tea, since it was obviously MY personal decision not to serve decaf on the playa. The then rips the teabag from its packet, and throws it at me, to which I say "It's your tea bag, it's your MOOP." Her male friend grabs it, but Older Lady decides to pitch a huge fucking fit, I eventually take it back so she'll *get out of my line*, and she then spends the next five minutes ranting to one of the DPW guys at Cafe about how I was out of line, she shouldn't have to pick up her own MOOP because she's Extra Special(tm), and that I should be fired.

I think she thought she was at Starbucks or something. I'm a volunteer; I can quit, but they can't fire me. Needless to say, it put a damper on my night. The Thunderdome crew were next in line and *had* to have seen it all.

Next, we have the after-burn bitching, but that's going to be several sub-threads here, I think.

People in the Faire circuit, who own booths which sell nonperiod items, who dress in nonperiod clothes, act in compltely inappropriate ways both for modern times as well as past ones, not to mention inappropriate for their AGE... And yet who criticize perfectly legitimate efforts to bring theatricality back to faire with false accusations that "that's not period, it's from the 18th century".

Grumble.

Quite frankly, I'm appalled. Not only by the fact that the faire is *still* going down despite changes in management, but the attitude of entitlement that the failing management has. To blame the competition for your failure is to fail doubly because by doing so you will never see the reason you failed in the first place, and can never correct it. I'm so sick of this discussion that I just about left the Dickens Fair Folk tribe in disgust.

The worst part though, is seeing someone I looked up to in the thick of it, perhaps causing some of it. I'll be sad to see him go down with the ship, as it were.

Argh, this is so aggravating!

Found three of the nine volume set of the Foxfire books today at Logos. Not in the greatest shape, but an amazing resource for people interested in self sufficiency and "folk knowledge".

Neat stuff. I have so much to do, and not enough time! Need to read the ever-growing stack of books, and finish my sewing commissions. I keep wondering if it'd be worth it to do like in The Fermata and pause time awhile to take care of these things... But then I'd hyperage.

Wow, this is why I should go to bed before 2am. :)

Single again. Not at all unexpected, but still owwie. Please resist the urge to pounce on me until the bandaids come off.

It looks like I'll be working Chocolate at Casa de Fruita again. This is of course assuming I can manage to scrape together a carpool.

In the meantime, working on getting together a build crew for Golden Gate parts. Anyone interested in doing volunteer construction and such? Carpentry skills and Bay Area location useful.

I'm sick.
Tech week for my show is rapidly coming up.
I'm 2/3 of the way through midterms.
I have a long, busy week ahead of me.

And my sister just went AWOL. (She called it "moving out", but if it wasn't for the fact that she's over 18, it would've been running away. I keep imagining her with a stick with a handkerchief bundle tied to the end of it, with her toothbrush sticking out.) Ahh, the drama of the mentally ill. I highly suspect she's in for a big shock, you know, with that whole "real world" thing. The best part is that she didn't leave any contact info, and forbid us all from trying to find her, saying that her friends will tell her if we're looking, and for each report, she'll be incommunicado for another week.

I say, let her sink or swim. But of course, mom's going to go running after her.

Sigh. Just venting.

Why is it that some people insist that they're being slighted somehow, regardless of the truth of the matter?

Once again, I'm seeing this debate go 'round and 'round on a dance forum about dance cards, and people not dancing with ladies under 30. Jesus christ people, why do you take this so seriously? Dancing is supposed to be fun - it's not a measure of your social success, desireability, or costuming skills. Perhaps, if you're not being asked to dance, it's because everyone knows of and dislikes your unfortunate bad attitude?

And dance cards? They're like sodomy: a matter of personal choice. Trying to enforce a ban on them is a stupid waste of time and really rather invasive of others' privacy and/or freedom to boot.

So I've been having some pangs over who to invite to this tribe, because a number of my friends are underage and at some point I may end up discussing... ahem... subjects not legally deemed suitable for the under-18 crowd. I realize that not allowing them to join won't necessarily keep them from *reading* this tribe, so I'm not sure of the utility of this precaution.
